Introduction

Here at Suited Tutor, we are committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for our students, parents, tutors, and employees.  Domestic abuse can affect anyone, regardless of their background, and we take a zero-tolerance stance on all forms of abuse. We recognise the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals, creating a legally and ethically responsible learning environment, and building trust within our safe community.

If you need immediate support, our contact details can be found here.

Understanding Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse is defined under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 as any behavior that is abusive between individuals who are personally connected. This includes:

  • Physical or sexual abuse
  • Emotional and psychological abuse
  • Coercive control (e.g. threats, intimidation, isolation, or financial control)
  • Economic abuse (e.g. restricting access to money, employment, or financial independence)
  • Digital or online abuse (e.g. monitoring social media, harassment, or sharing private information without consent). You may refer to our Harassment and Anti-Bullying Policy for more details.

Domestic abuse does not only occur in romantic relationships; it can happen between family members, housemates, or dependents. It can also affect children who witness first-hand abusive behaviour.

For more information, visit: Domestic Abuse Act 2021.

Recognising the Signs of Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse can be difficult to recognise. Here are some indicators:

  • Emotional or psychological changes: Increased anxiety, depression, or social withdrawal.
  • Physical signs: Unexplained injuries, frequent absences, or signs of distress.
  • Financial control: Sudden financial struggles or restrictions.
  • Behavioural changes: Fear of speaking openly, unusual secrecy, or avoiding certain topics.
  • Constant checking-in: Being overly worried about contacting someone or following strict schedules.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, seeking help is crucial.
