What does it take to become a Tutor? Is there a secret recipe?
Tutoring is an innate passion, and if you merge your academic allure and subject-area expertise together, then the outcome will be extremely successful. That being said, "are there really any hidden ingredients" to being a great tutor?
Let's bring all the pieces together
We at Suited Tutor believe that - to be an astounding tutor, you should combine various characteristics and personality traits, so that your lessons with your students can be fun, engaging and foremost unforgettable. In other words, delivering interactive sessions with a bit of a 'wow' element! ✨
Recruitment Process and Selection
To join us as a tutor, you would need to apply for the Private Tutor position on our career site and successfully complete/pass two (2) online interview phases.
In the first round, you will be asked four questions, in which we assess your qualifications and expertise in your chosen subject area of expertise, to ensure you have the knowledge and passion to teach effectively. We'll also explore your teaching philosophy and background.
The second round focuses on your teaching approach and interpersonal skills, which are essential for fostering strong student connections. This phase allows you to demonstrate how you engage students and communicate complex ideas clearly.
Both rounds are designed to ensure we select tutors who are not only knowledgeable but also versatile educators.
In addition, for our tutors to be considered eligible, they need to fulfil the following criteria:
- Hold a PGCE/QTS, PhD, Master's or relevant qualification
- Have at least 5 years of tutoring or relevant experience
- Be enhanced DBS checked*
- Equipped with passion and a can-do attitude

*Please note: Especially for those tutors, who have signed up on our platform and opted for delivering in-person classes, it is mandatory to apply for an Enhanced DBS check. Rest assured, our supportive team at Suited Tutor has got your back and will be able to guide you throughout the process, as well as handle all of the strenuous bureaucratic procedures. (Gentle reminder: the DBS application and processing fees will be covered by the tutor).
